Florence Training Center Hosts Tech Students for a Day of Career Exploring

A group of Alabama high school students recently got a close look at a career in carpentry at the Florence Training Center.

The Lawrence County Special Education Resource Center is a technical education program that offers woodworking, pottery, and t-shirt design programs. To help students understand their career opportunities, school leaders brought 20 students to the Center.

Carpenters Local 1209 Business Representative Jeff Tucker and Carpenter Instructors John Potts and Donald Williams from the Mid-South Carpenters Training Trust Fund led the students’ experience, including guiding them through hands-on activities. Local 1209 also donated hard hats and safety glasses for each student to keep.

“Words can not express how much fun our students and staff had,” said Donna Flannagan, Building Administrator, Lawrence County Special Services. “The hard hats and safety glasses that the Local donated are now a favorite for our students when they are working in our shop.”
